sitting by the tracks the vagrant sings he croons he hums a song for those waiting as he watches the trains leave him behind again and again and again and again setting the locomotive monotone of his babbled ballad lost in the slipstream of the rushing crowds
slipping
through his greasy ancient hair while their time ticks on ticks on in the displays
of their watches and their phones whereupon he shakes his grizzled head and sighs — “mein Gott, dein Zeitgeist ermüdet mich” — and tosses his song for those waiting with the rest of the garbage scattered on the tracks
