Seiltänzerin — August Macke (1887–1914) — public domain

balancing on the tightropes of our dreams we perform our precarious advance side by side yet poles apart a circus act in solitude ignoring what’s below | the ringmaster’s bullhorn the carnival of clowns and the pedestrian crowd all gasping and lusting for a bloody broken drama because they fail to see the dreams we chase and the heights we brave | and though the rope runs straight we ignore its end so we work our art in solitude and fear the fall since grace and beauty provide no net
